Brianne Bennett
Tell us a little about yourself (or a lot)! Where are you from/where do you live? What do you like to do besides photography?
I am from Kelowna, BC. I am also a makeup artist @briannebennettbeauty and have recently completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology
When did you first get into photography?
I have always wanted to be into photography but my passion was always centered around makeup and fashion. I knew that I would need a good amount of spare time to teach myself the elements of photography and Covid gave me the perfect chance.
When did you start shooting film?
I got into photography this past year actually because of COVID. I had some spare time and found my mom’s old film camera. I have always wanted to learn film and this gave me the perfect opportunity!
What style of photography do you find yourself drawn to (either viewing or shooting)? Is there something you would like to start shooting?
Yes, as a makeup artist I would love to eventually expand my knowledge in digital photography - specifically in studio photography.
How has your experience with being a MUA helped you transition into being a photographer?
OMG it has helped me so so so much. I only had to learn the technical elements of cameras and shooting, but I already had the eye for what makes a photo a good photo. I definitely feel like I have more of an advantage starting out in photography than I did when I started as a makeup artist.

Do you see yourself becoming a full time photographer (having it as a career) or would you rather have it as a second to your current career (and what do you currently do as your job)?
Would absolutely love to be a full time makeup artist and photographer. That is the dream. However, I am also going to be doing my Master’s of Social Work beginning in 2022 so I would be thrilled to have a combination of everything.
What’s your dream camera?
Pretty much any Contax film camera
Where/what has been your favourite place to shoot at?
Vancouver Island for sure.
What’s a word of advice you would give someone who wants to get into portrait photography?
Learn the elements of modeling. Spend time observing models and learning what they are taught so that you can better direct them on set.
What’s a word of advice you would give someone who wants to get into make up?
Shadow people!! Be an established MUA’s assistant and work hard.
Is there anyone that has really influenced your work? Either another artist or someone outside of the photography world?

I took a course under the Modern Photography Academy and it not only helped shape my photography but also my makeup business.
Goals for this year?
To travel!!! Specifically Europe.
